Elementary Teacher

Topsail Montessori seeks an experienced Elementary Teacher who is passionate about fostering the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of children using hands-on, process-based instructional methods. The ideal candidate has experience connecting classroom learning to opportunities that positively impact local and global communities. They are skilled in working with mixed-age classrooms, building strong relationships with students, colleagues and parents, and adapting to new challenges with creativity and optimism. They also prioritize self-reflection to continuously grow in their teaching practice.

Our 5+ acre campus is situated in a coastal community, minutes from beautiful beaches and Wilmington, NC. Nestled in a wooded neighborhood, our elementary students care for chickens & goats, plant & harvest our gardens, and experience the joy of feeling connected with nature. Montessori philosophy guides our school culture, where respect, community, and love of learning form our core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Differentiate Instruction: Design and implement differentiated instructional strategies to accommodate the various learning styles, developmental stages, and needs of all students
  • Teach & Support Students within a Mixed-Age Classroom: Demonstrate expertise in managing and nurturing a classroom environment that caters to the developmental needs of students across different age groups.
  • Build Trusting & Collaborative Relationships: Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues through regular communication (phone calls, face-to-face meetings, classroom events), ensuring a supportive and collaborative community.
  • Demonstrate effective methods of Data Collection & Intervention: Utilize data to monitor student progress, implement effective intervention strategies, and adjust teaching approaches to maximize individual growth and success.
  • Possess a Growth Mindset: Maintain a process-oriented, positive perspective towards both student and personal growth. Adapt your teaching practices to meet the demands of a dynamic classroom environment.
  • Demonstrate Curricular Knowledge & Pedagogical Best Practices: Implement and integrate various teaching approaches, including Montessori, Project-Based Learning (PBL), Socratic Seminars, and Entrepreneurship, to engage and challenge students.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education (or related field); teaching certification preferred.
  • Experience in teaching elementary-aged students, with a focus on differentiated instruction and mixed-age classrooms.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong classroom management skills within mixed-age classroom

Compensation:

Salary will be based upon experience and credentials.

Afterschool Teacher

Topsail Montessori is seeking dependable, caring, dynamic educators to teach in our After School Program. Responsibilities include supervision of children, proactive & professional communication with parents, managing children through the principles of Positive Discipline, and collaboration with other Topsail Montessori staff.

Position: Afterschool Team Member 

Candidates must have experience working with children ages 2-10  and provide NCDEE paperwork to be eligible for employment (NC background clearance, NCID account, medical and TB report, First Aid/CPR certification, safety training, etc.).

Hours: M-F, 2:30 - 5:30pm

Pay: $17 per hour

Position Type: Part-Time

Afterschool Enrichment Teachers

Topsail Montessori is seeking dependable, caring, dynamic educators to teach in our After School Program. Responsibilities include supervision of children, proactive & professional communication with parents, managing children through the principles of Positive Discipline, and collaboration with other Topsail Montessori staff. Candidates must have experience working with children ages 3-12 and have strong classroom management skills. Only candidates with skills or experience in one or more of the following areas should apply: Dance, Spanish, martial arts, music (instrument group instruction), theater or performing arts. A group lesson demonstration will be part of the application process.

Hours: TBD

  • Classes will be offered between 3:15 - 5:30 

Pay Rate: $25-$40 per hour plus $5 commission per student for class sizes above 12

  • The pay rate will be based on the candidate's class offering, skills, and classroom management capabilities.
